Our first Cocoa & Crafts Library was a huge success! This is an event hosted by the library throughout the year. Students pay a small amount and enjoy time in the library creating a craft and drinking cocoa!! The funds raised are used to purchase books and other supplies for our library.

How much screen time is “too much”?
The answer gets complicated because screen use changes dramatically across childhood and adolescence, and not all screen time serves the same purpose.
A FaceTime call with Grandma is different from watching YouTube for three hours. Doing homework is different from scrolling TikTok until midnight. Playing a collaborative game with friends is different from using a phone alone for hours while feeling increasingly disconnected.
And for many adults, the reality is that pretty much all of our waking hours involve a device in some way. We work on screens, communicate through screens, shop on screens, consume entertainment on screens, read the news on screens, manage our finances on screens, and often reach for our phones whenever there is a moment of boredom or discomfort.
That makes the question of screen time increasingly complicated. We can't simply ask, “How many hours?”
We also have to ask:
Is your child sleeping enough?
Are they getting outside?
Are they maintaining friendships?
Can they tolerate being bored?
Are screens interfering with family life, school, or responsibilities?
Can they put the device down when asked?
And honestly, adults might want to ask themselves some of the same questions.
Screens are part of modern life. The goal isn't necessarily eliminating them. It's developing a relationship with technology that allows us to use it without allowing it to consume every available moment of our attention.
Because when a device is present from the moment we wake up until the moment we fall asleep, the question becomes less about whether we use screens and more about what the screens are replacing.
